NOT HERE Presents:  The Governor’s Summit on Human Trafficking

November 12 & 13, 2015

The Countdown: 93 days remaining

August 4th began our 100 day countdown leading up to The Governor’s Summit on Human Trafficking in Maine. Over these 100 days, we will be sharing a fact, a resource, or a perspective each day, to raise awareness, encourage discussion, and inspire action against injustice, both domestically, and globally.

Today’s Featured Fact: 1 in 6

This is the number of endangered runaways reported to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) that were likely victims of sex trafficking in 2014.

1 in 6.

This number is UP from 2013, when 1 in 7 were believed to be victims of sex trafficking. In addition, 68% of these likely victims were in the care of social services or foster care when they ran away.

Do YOU want to KNOW more?
Download the 1 in 6 infographic pdf: here. Share it, then start conversations about why it is important to proactively support the organizations who are working with at-risk and runaway youth BEFORE these kids are trafficked.

If you are a parent, grandparent, or just care about kids, read the NCMEC’s quick fact sheet on Child Sex Trafficking in America as well as the guide: Helping Families Prevent Child Sexual Exploitation. Prevention starts with communication.

NCMEC also has a quick fact sheet geared specifically at Child Welfare Workers that can be found: here.
