NOT HERE Presents: The Governor’s Summit on Human Trafficking

November 12 & 13, 2015

Human trafficking is the fastest growing crime in the world.
And it is happening right here in Maine.

Today starts a 100 day countdown leading up to The Governor’s Summit on Human Trafficking in Maine. During the next 100 days, we will be sharing a fact, a resource, or a perspective each day, to raise awareness, encourage discussion, and inspire action against this injustice, both domestically, and globally.

We invite you to like us on facebook, follow us on twitter, and share these facts with your social networks to help us raise awareness that yes, human trafficking DOES happen in Maine, and EVERYONE needs to be involved to stop it.

Today’s Resource: The 2015 Trafficking in Persons Report

Last month, the U.S. Department of State published the 2015 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. This report is the most comprehensive global resource – ranking countries around the world into one of three tiers based on their government’s efforts to comply with the minimum standards set forth in the TVPA to eliminate human trafficking.  It is important to recognize this is a global problem that impacts all of us, and is impacted by all of us. It is a problem of global proportions, and it will thus require a global solution. Each of us is a part of that solution.

It starts with YOU.

We challenge you to download the Country Narratives : T – Z, flip through to page 352 of the report (the 27th page of the pdf), and start reading about Human Trafficking in the United States. Yes, we are fortunate to live in a country with a Tier 1 ranking, but we DO have human trafficking.

Right here. In our country. In our state. In our communities.

We need EVERYONE to be involved in standing against this injustice.

That means YOU too.  Share what you learn with your friends.

Encourage them to also get involved.  Start discussions. Learn more.

We will keep sharing resources, facts, and ways to get involved, including information on registering for the upcoming Governor’s Summit in the days and weeks to come.

Be a part of the movement that declares Not Here!

YOUR voice matters.
